New Baby, New quilts x2

I have had 2 gorgeous friends, have 2 new babies in the month of January so I was busy making these quilts as baby gifts for them.
First was Sophie, a little pink bundle, which I used my absolute fave colour combo of pink and white on.

With some extra little touches...

Matching cushion and little label.
I am really happy with it as it was only my third quilt. I have learnt a lot from the first 2 and was really happy with how this came together. I whipped the cushion up as a little extra.

The newest little baby is Caleb, my first boy quilt.

I really love the colours I used for this, really different and really bright.

I hope the little babes love their quilts as much as I did making them. Now I have to try a new pattern and a new challenge.

Waiting patiently for my new little niece or nephew so I can make them one............

Cuddle Cushion

I finally decided to finish Marlos cushion which I started months ago, I made it to match her quilt and I am really happy with how it turned out, and I think she is too!
I need to master the zip next. I just hand sew the cushion together once I have inserted the stuffing and it really is not that nice to look at. Maybe I will tackle a zip after I finish Ellies quilt and make her a matching cushion.

My jelly roll arrived the next day and I love the fabric! I have been really busy measuring and cutting fabric all week. Thank god I bought a rotary cutter, had made the process heaps easier!
Mind you I have not cut the batting yet and that will be a challenge as it is alot thicker material!

Until then.....

Can't Wait!

I bought my first "jelly roll" a couple of weeks ago, (it is a collection of pre-cut fabric strips, 2.5" by 44") and I am patiently waiting for it to arrive. I think it is great that you can now by pre-cuts, this makes it much easier to sew straight!
I could not resist when I saw how cute, "Sherbet Pips" by Aneela Hoey for Moda Fabrics was.

I am really looking forward to making my first quilt with this gorgeous fabric. I have found a tutorial which I really like and I am hoping will be easy for me. I think my daughter will love it! Will keep you posted on how it goes.... just have to wait for the fabric to arrive!

First Post

Have finally decided my blog page looks good and I am really excited to enter the world of "blogging"..... I am sure I will need to tweak the page as time goes on.
I have really been enjoying reading lots of peoples blogs about sewing and what craft items they are working on. I felt really inspired to start my own blog and share what projects I am thinking of working on.
I am a real beginner and after inheriting my first sewing machine off my very much loved Nan, I am finding that I truly enjoy the things I can now make!
Anyway, getting back to the beginner side of things..... I am teaching myself how to use the machine and all the different techniques I need to apply. There are a lot of useful websites out there, but not many sites for real basic knowledge. So I am hoping as I learn things, challenges or triumphs, I will share them all on this blog and hope other beginners can utilize them also.

Enjoy
